Our back story began in creating design for print, SBM has a long-standing love of typography – and we’ve worked with a fair number of printers over the years. Yet when we started working with Cupiss Letterpress in Diss, we could hardly believe our eyes as we saw their wonderful stock of letterpress fonts and presses.

Inspiration pours from every corner, nook and cranny of this 186-year old family run business. Still using their incredible Heidleberg presses, a 1950’s custom built hand press and a hand hot foiling press, they also continue to use the first press the company purchased in1830, a Columbian Eagle press. For smaller jobs, they use a Farley Proofing press, whilst their Wharfedale Crown press is currently on loan to the Bressingham Steam Museum! But don’t let this amazing collection of antiquities fool you, Cupiss is also bang up-to-date with all the latest gadgets and gizmos that would make some of tech giants blush.

As you can imagine, SBM had a LOT of fun planning the photography for their new website.

The result is a gorgeous collection of images, from close-ups of the stunning fonts to shots of beautiful, bespoke letterpress printing and finishing; all beautifully lit to reveal the subtlety and quality of what has become a lost art. Almost.
